8 Things to Know About Heart Disease

June 19, 2025 by Trulee-Admin

Heart disease poses a significant concern for older adults due to a combination of age-related physiological changes and accumulated risk factors. As individuals age, the heart and blood vessels undergo structural and functional alterations, including increased stiffness of arterial walls, which can lead to elevated blood pressure and a higher workload on the heart. These changes make the cardiovascular system more susceptible to conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, and arrhythmias.

Moreover, the prevalence of heart disease among older adults is notably high. National statistics indicate that nearly a quarter of U.S. adults aged 75 and older have heart disease, encompassing various conditions like coronary artery disease and heart failure.  This elevated incidence underscores the importance of vigilant monitoring and proactive management of cardiovascular health in later life.

AARP has put together a very informative piece with 8 things you need to know about heart disease. To view the story, CLICK HERE.
